Go for a walk at San Agustín

The restructuring and embellishing works at San Agustín started by the town hall of de San Bartolomé de Tirajana are concluding. San Agustín was the origin of this his actually tourist destination and it has converted into a pleasant and peaceful place. Now, it allows going for long walks between green spaces and ancient monuments, and next to institutions of the broad Nordic community that resides here.

The tidy up and landscape works have been done by a various city councillors, like Tourism or Infrastructures. Reason why the responsible councillors of it have visited the zone to check the conditions of the most ancient monument at San Agustín: the sundial. It was built forty years ago and many people, even local persons, ignored that it was there because the vegetation hided the sight from the road.

The sundial of San Agustín is probably one of the biggest of this category in Europe and it was created by a Norwegian architect. He also promoted the first complex in this zone, called “Rocas Rojas”. The sundial is located next to the Norwegian Church, the Norwegian Rehabilitation Centre and the Norwegian School, and now it is value-added next to the boulevard and the new improved surroundings.

The councillor for Tourism, Mr. Ramón Suárez, and the councillors for Infrastructures, Mrs. Saida Valido and Mr. Fernando González, checked the works in company of the director of the complex “Rocas Rojas”. “Town hall wants to recover this zone, because it is a part of the Maspalomas’ history. Ever since San Agustín is recovered, the restructuring and embellishing works will start next to the Ecumenical Temple and El Botánico. Also other emblematic places will be improved to benefit neighbours and visitors”, explained Mr. Ramón Suárez.
