Drag queen gala 2010
It was the 12th of February, the night where the biggest show of the las palmas carnival was staged. Thousands of people where trying to get tickets for this yearly event and finally got there.
Gala drag queen, a night where many people are waiting for a whole year. After a spectacular opening of the night, the first drag-queen appeared. The crowd went wild! If you'd seen it, you would understand why !
It’s full entertainment ,the Spanish people call the contestants ( Reinas de la noche) and this means, for the non Spanish speaking, ‘Queens of the night’ … and they are.
High heels like you’ve never seen before, costumes to die for and make-up to optimise the show and claim of their few minutes of fame. It is absolutely amazing how the guys and their dancers put all their creativity in their show, how they change from their first costume into another while they are dancing on heels of 30 plus centimetres.
Within the pre selection of 27 guys, the finalists were 16 head counted drag queens who did their upmost to get the title of drag-queen las palmas 2010.
The winner named ‘ Mandragon’ was the absolute winner. It was original, funny and entertaining to the max. He appeared in a stunning snow white costume, a couple of dwarfs that everyone thought were children. As soon as the beats of the music started, they undressed themselves and surprisingly enough they were lilyputs who were dancing their short legs off, hahahahaha so funny.
Hopefully the drag-queen culture of this huge event in gran canaria, will keep its roots, as for many people and contestants, drag queens are guys dressing up as girls and not girls as guys. However drag NOA has been popular over the last three years and she managed this year to be in the list of honour with a 2nd prize.
The drag queen gala’s of the carnival of gran canaria raised in popularity and became within last year a cultural event. With that, it is broadcasted on television in whole of Spain and international channels all over the world. During the show national and international stars performed on the main stage which looked absolutely stunning.
This year Fragma was one of the international stars who appeared on stage to perform her hit single memory , Crystal Waters let the crowd dancing to her dalali dalala sound of the 80’s … Roberto Herrera well known on Spanish television was presenting the gala of this carnival, alongside comedian, Antonia San Juan, who brought jokes and laughter in between.
On huge demand Eurovision artist ‘ Soraya’ appeared on stage with her 2009 Eurovision song‘ La noche es para mi’
So with this the night was complete.
We can’t wait till next year carnival gala drag, but luckily next month the south of gran canaria will celebrate carnival too, maspalomas 2010 will also get the huge stage shows like ‘gala reina ‘and ‘gala drag’ …
Also in May, during a the huge gay pride event, the gala drag will be one of the mainstage show …
